Statement from Rainforest Action Network on the protests in Minneapolis and systemic racism.

Black lives matter — and systemic racism demands systemic change.

Rainforest Action Network acts and speaks in solidarity against the systemic violence specifically experienced by Black people in the United States. We join with those demanding action and demanding justice. We join with those outraged by the institutional injustice in the killing of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Sandra Bland, Tony McDade, Amber Monroe, Breonna Taylor, Jamar Clark, Philando Castile, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Freddie Gray, and so many others. And we are ashamed by the disgraceful words of this president as he sinks to yet another new low by glorifying violence.

Silence is not an option. It is up to all of us to demand change, demand justice, demand an end to racist violence and racial inequity.

What can we do right now?

— Support the need for immediate legal aid through the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

— Support Minnesota’s Black Visions Collective, a local organization dedicated to healing and transformative justice principles and committed to dismantling systems of oppression and violence.

— Learn how to be pro-actively anti-racist.
