GPS: 4°48’15.696″N, 97°31’4.626E – Field investigations confirmed active clearance of lowland rainforests inside palm oil concession PT. Tualang Raya. This concession is located in an area that is considered the world’s best remaining habitat for the critically endangered Sumatran elephant. Either PT. Tualang Raya is continuing to clear forest despite the Indonesian government’s moratorium on palm oil expansion or has failed to adequately monitor its concession and engage with other parties that are developing the land.
Rainforest Action Network also exposed PT. Tualang Raya for the destruction of the Leuser Ecosystem’s lowland rainforests in September 2015. More details available here.
