The Trump EPA is striking down the endangerment finding — the legal determination based on scientific consensus that establishes the government’s authority to reduce dangerous greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane, into the atmosphere and has functioned as the backbone of US climate policy. More than 75% of Americans are worried their local area might be harmed by extreme weather events or related impacts including air pollution”1 — but this decision shows the administration does not care about more severe heat waves, larger wildfires and more wildfire smoke-related deaths, rising seas, growing food insecurity, and a range of health problems.2
The Trump administration is selling us out to the highest profiteers — prioritizing corporate and billionaire profits above the health and safety of Americans and communities around the globe. This is a gift to fossil fuel companies to pollute and profit at the expense of all of our health, communities, and wallets. It’s time for us to use our voice and demand that our government put people over profits and plan for a sustainable, healthy future for all.
