“Resistance is here to stay, welcome to your 100th day!”

Activists marked President Trump’s 100th day in office with the 2017 Peoples Climate March in Washington D.C. Thousands of people across the country rallied in D.C. to advocate for our environment, yielding signs, sharing art, and chanting, making clear to the Trump Administration, the resistance is here to stay.

200,000 folks on the streets of D.C. were joined by over 370 Sister Marches across the country and around the world. This display of people power reaffirmed  that fighting for our environment is our priority.

Folks from the RAN team made the trip to Washington D.C. to support and participate in actions taking place in the week leading up to the Peoples Climate March.

Friday afternoon, the Center for Justice and Accountability (CJA) and other coalition partners organized a ‘red line‘ across the capital, taking a stand “against the corporations and politicians driving the extractive economy” and their increasing assaults on people and planet. The red line was led by front-line communities from across the country.

Saturday’s activities in D.C. began at sunrise with a water ceremony led by Indigenous peoples at the Capitol Reflecting Pool. Our RAN contingent was able to plug in and help support the Fossil Fuel Resistance bloc, a group of hundreds that are ready to stand up to the climate deniers in office and show that we’re ready to resist the Trump Administration’s fossil fueled agenda. During the march, marchers sat down and took a moment of silence to, “recognize the damage caused by the Trump administration over the last 100 days and those who are losing their lives to the climate crisis”. They then created a movement heartbeat to reaffirm that we are all one, and that we are in this resistance together.

After marching throughout downtown D.C, RAN along with our friends and allies helped to organize #Flood Trump, an action aimed at disrupting the Trump Hotel. There we formed human ‘waves” and made some surges towards the already set up barricades. There was dancing, music, glitter and activists had an opportunity to write out messages to Trump in chalk directly in front of his hotel.

The resistance is strong. We will continue to fight for our communities and our planet.
