I have been a staff member and donor of Rainforest Action Network since 2022 and have always been invested in environmental protection as an avid backpacker. I live in Asheville NC and this past year, felt the climate crisis in a more personal way than ever before – living at the epicenter of Hurricane Helene’s destruction. I’m particularly thankful for RAN’s work to hold those who caused this escalation of climate change events around the world accountable. Our insurance company didn’t cover the damage at our house. But you know what insurance companies are covering? The fossil fuel industry – the primary drivers of these escalating global crises.
It’s important to me that RAN is making an impact driving industry-wide change while partnering with communities at the center of our work. For example, last year RAN team members published a report illuminating which fossil fuel projects insurance companies are underwriting. And since publishing that report, the largest North American insurer, Chubb, pulled out of supporting the destructive Rio Grande Valley Pipeline as a result.
High visibility investigations resulting in big impacts shaking entire industries into changing their behavior. I love it!
