Two bits of bad news for coal giant Massey Energy
1. Massey agreed to pay $30 million for lootin’ and pollutin’.
“The country’s fourth-largest coal producer, Massey Energy Co., has agreed to a $30 million settlement with the government over allegations that over seven years it routinely polluted hundreds of streams and waterways in West Virginia and Kentucky with sediment-filled waste water and coal slurry.”
2. And the controversy over the Chief Justice of the West Virginia Supreme Court, and sitting judge on a Massey related lawsuit, vacationing with Massey CEO Don Blankenship has led to the justice removing himself from the case.
I guess lots of money can’t buy you friends.
Now how about ruining Massey’s year and banning that nasty little thing we call mountaintop removal?
