What is a donor-advised fund (DAF)?
A donor-advised fund (DAF) is a philanthropic giving vehicle like a charitable savings account. It provides an immediate tax benefit to you, and allows you to easily support RAN and other charities of your choice. Generally, you can contribute cash, appreciated securities, and other assets to your DAF account to give out over time.
How do donor-advised funds work?
DAFs can be easily set up through a financial institution or a community foundation to serve as a flexible charitable giving vehicle. For more information on how to establish a DAF, contact your community foundation or financial advisor.
Why are donor-advised funds used?
Note: Individual situations vary, so donors should consult their advisors.
- It makes it easy to turn your portfolio into an impactful gift to protect forests and the climate.
- It eliminates capital gains on donated stock. DAF giving accounts have the potential to grow over time, possibly providing additional funding when you are ready to make a gift. *Reminder, that you can always make a gift of stock directly to RAN!
- You can easily set up recurring DAF gifts, which help sustain the long time work to keep forests standing and fossil fuels in the ground.
- You can quickly put your charitable dollars into action to respond to climate emergencies and urgent requests with an immediate grant.
- You can sustain this work into the future by designating Rainforest Action Network as a beneficiary of your DAF.

What are other ways I can support?
Aside from giving a gift through donor-advised funds, there are many other ways to support RAN’s work:
