Join the Twitter Storm

Thanks for joining our Twitter Storm! The goal today is to link PepsiCo’s Twitter handle - @PepsiCo - with the hashtag #ConflictPalmOil and to cause that hashtag to trend on Twitter.

By successfully linking @PepsiCo to #ConflictPalmOil, we’ll ensure that in the online space, PepsiCo can’t escape the devastation that its palm oil policies are causing - for workers, for forests, and for endangered species. We’ll also educate thousands of people who have never heard of Conflict Palm Oil before on the destruction it causes.

Taking part is simple - on this page, we have over 100 sample tweets you can click to post directly to Twitter. Clicking on any of the graphics here will also tweet those. Some top tips for helping to make this a huge success:

  • Please tweet as many of these as possible between 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM Pacific / 2:00 - 3:00 PM Eastern on Thursday, April 28, using the hashtag #ConflictPalmOil and the handle @PepsiCo.

  • The more you can tweet and engage with others during that time the bigger the impact.

  • Please include some of your own language. Twitter loves variety to know a conversation is important.

Here are some key tweets to retweet and sample tweets and images for you to share. Click on either the tweets or graphics to tweet directly, or modify these as you like.

A dedicated environmental campaigner dismissed this campaign as ‘clictivism’. Implying ineffectualness. I actually think that online campaigning is highly effective- targeting companies’ publicity dependence, and making it easier for more people to do more, etc. Could you address this issue of effectiveness in your materials, ideally with some sort of evidential analysis? Thanks, and carry on the great work.
