Sign the petition! Demand protection for the orangutans of Sungai Putri!
One of the few remaining primary forests in West Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo), Sungai Putri is home to between 750 and 1750 critically endangered Bornean orangutans. This forest is one of the last vestiges of hope for this amazing species, and it is under imminent threat from the expansion of Conflict Palm Oil and pulp plantations.
In order to prevent orangutans facing extinction in the wild, we must do everything in our power to protect their rainforest home.
Will you join us in calling for the protection of this important forest—one of the last stands of the critically endangered Bornean Orangutan? Add your name below to send a message to Indonesia's President Jokowi asking for immediate protection.
To: Dear President Jokowi,
Sungai Putri is one of the last vestiges of hope for the Bornean orangutan and a critical area of primary rainforest and extensive deep peat in West Kalimantan.
Despite your commitment to limit Indonesia’s contribution to climate change and government lead moratoriums aimed at halting the destruction of rainforests and peatlands, rogue actors PT. Damai Agro Sejahtera (DAS) and PT Mohairson Pawan Khatulistiwa are moving forward with plans to destroy this important area.
I recognize that Indonesia’s rainforests are a national treasure. The global community also supports their protection as vital watersheds, sources of livelihoods, and habitat areas for orangutans, elephants, rhinos and tigers and countless other species.
I am writing to express my support for your continued efforts to secure the protection of the irreplaceable forests of Sungai Putra.
