RAN Responds to Trudeau Government’s Kinder Morgan Pipeline Buyout

In response to today’s announcement on the Trudeau government’s plan to buy Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline, Patrick McCully, RAN’s Climate and Energy Program Director issued this statement:

“The Trudeau government’s desperate efforts to save the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion make a mockery of its attempts to appear sensitive to environmental and social issues on the world stage. If Prime Minister Trudeau really cared about climate and Indigenous rights his government would just let this unnecessary and unwanted project die. Clearly the only way any investor will put their money into it is if the Canadian taxpayer is on the hook to pay for all its delays, cost overruns and potential commercial failure.”

Ruth Breech, RAN’s Climate and Energy Senior Campaigner added:

“Everyone knows that pipelines spell disaster. That’s exactly why Trans Mountain is the third major pipeline project to stall in two years. The Trudeau government’s desperate effort to compel Trans Mountain is reckless and endangers the lives and welfare of its citizens. This is what heinous leadership looks like.”
