Note: BLM cancelled the Wyoming auction scheduled for Tuesday, February 2 due to a snowstorm in the area. Please make a call about the Colorado auction on Thursday, February 11 instead!
Just weeks ago, U.S. negotiators at the Paris climate summit helped secure a global commitment to keep climate change under 1.5 degrees Celsius — and touted the agreement as a victory for U.S. climate leadership.
The commitment is important — but to meet it we have to keep fossil fuels in the ground.
And meanwhile, here at home, for the oil and gas industry, it’s business as usual. Thursday, February 11, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) is scheduled to auction off tens of thousands of acres of public lands in Colorado to oil and gas companies to drill and frack for private profit, cooking the climate in the process.
We have to do better. We have to put a stop to business as usual. No more fossil fuel public lands auctions! Keep it in the ground! Let’s tell the administration to cancel Thursday's auction in Colorado. Call the White House today!

Here’s a simple script you can use:
I'm calling to ask President Obama to show true climate leadership by canceling the fossil fuel auction in Colorado scheduled for Thursday, February 11. I applaud the U.S. commitment to keep climate change under 1.5 degrees, but now we have to live up to that commitment.
Climate scientists say that we have to leave 80% of all fossil fuels under ground in order to have a decent chance at avoiding runaway climate catastrophe. That means that 100% of the US' publicly-owned fossil fuels -- like those scheduled for auction off this week -- need to remain unburned.
If President Obama wanted to, he could put a stop to this with the stroke of a pen. If he wants to leave a legacy of climate action, then he needs to do just that. The recent coal moratorium was a big step forward. But the president needs to end ALL fossil fuel auctions of public lands now.
