North Carolina getting unfriendlier for mountaintop removal coal

By scott parkin

Yesterday, two NC institutions stepped up for Appalachia.

The North Carolina legislature introduced a bill to ban the burning of mountaintop removal coal in the state. NC is the 2nd largest non-coal producing consumer of MTR coal in the country.

And then the Charlotte Observer published an article critical of hometown bank’s, Bank of America, financing of the practice. Bank of America spends quite a bit of their public relations budget painting themselves green, but as the CO observed they invest 100 times more money on the coal industry than the renewable energy industry.

Boo Yea! Up with NC, down with mountaintop removal!! Maybe next we can get Michael Jordan or Jim Valvano to do a flyover of some MTR sites.
