SAN FRANCISCO, CA.—The environmental group Rainforest Action Network released the following statement today in response to the ongoing attacks on workers’ rights in Wisconsin and around the country:

“What kind of government doesn’t respect its public school teachers and other state employees? Shame on Governor Walker and Wisconsin Republican Senators for this desperate move to scapegoat public workers and undermine American values.

“When thousands of teachers and other public workers are attacked, we are all attacked.

“Our elected representatives on both sides of the aisle are tasked with carrying out the will of the people, protecting our well being, not their own self-interest or that of billionaire corporations. What we are seeing in Wisconsin is not democracy but the interests of an elite few at the expense of the rest of us.

“The mass mobilization of public workers and their allies in Wisconsin is an inspiration to the rest of the country. We need to see many, many more people join with Wisconsin workers to protect our democracy from corporate interests and their backers in government.

“What is happening today in Wisconsin is undermining the values that our nation was built on, it is undermining the American Dream.”
