Action Alerts

One of the biggest threats to rainforests right now is soy and palm oil agriculture, and most of it is driven by U.S.-based corporations. We need students of all ages to help send a clear message to these companies that we want our rainforests intact and the rights of Indigenous peoples and workers respected. Click here for more information and a sample letter.

Create a poster to show the big Agribusiness companies why the rainforests are so important and should not be destroyed for soy and palm oil! Use your imagination and some paints or pens to get your message across. These posters will be given and displayed all at once to the big companies to make a big splash in the media and share your concerns to the world. The kids of Marsh Fork Elementary School in West Virginia have been suffering from health problems because of coal dust and other toxins in their school. The dangerous pollutants come from a coal factory just 150 feet from the school grounds. As if that wasn't bad enough, there is an earthen dam 400 yards upstream from the school that is holding back 2.8 billion gallons of toxic coal waste, identified as "seeping" in widespread areas by federal inspectors. The students and families of Marsh Fork Elementary school want Governor Manchin to build them a new school within their community yet far away from any pollutants.

Grassy Narrows Wins

This forest in Ontario Canada, home of the Grassy Narrows First Nation, will no longer be logged!

RAN's Old Growth Campaign has been working with the Indigenous people of Grassy NarrowsCanada since 2003, to pressure big companies like Weyerhaeuser Corp., Boise Inc and Abitibi Bowater to stop using wood from their land. On July 1, 2008, all the logging will stop. Thanks to all the students and teachers who wrote letters and raised money for Grassy Narrows. Learn more about this historic victory here.
