These recycled notebooks can be used at school or home, or given as gifts!

You need:

  • 20 sheets of 8½" x 11" paper that's already been used on one side
  • 1 piece of 8½" x 11" cardboard (cereal boxes or old boxes work well)
  • scissors
  • hole puncher
  • thick string or twine
  • ballpoint and marker pens, rainforest stickers, stamps, glitter and glue

Directions:

  1. Take paper and cross out the used side with a ballpoint pen. Cut the cardboard and all the paper in half so that they measure 5½" x 8½". Place newly cut paper in order so that unused sides face up.
  2. Make a "notebook sandwich" by putting sheets of paper between the pieces of cardboard. Make sure the plain sides of the cardboard covers are facing out so you can decorate them later.
  3. With hole puncher, punch out three holes - equally spaced - along the 8½" side of a cardboard cover. This will be your guide.
  4. Take several sheets of paper at a time, and using the holes punched in the cardboard guide, punch out holes in the paper so that all the holes match up. Continue doing this with the rest of the paper and cardboard.
  5. Re-assemble your notebook sandwich lining up all the holes.
  6. Take thick string and tie each hole with a knot or bow. Make sure you tie it tight enough so the notebook stays together, and loose enough so that you can turn the pages.
  7. Decorate both front and back covers.
  8. Remember to write on the front that your notebook is 100% recycled
